UA social work student named best in Ohio

The National Association of Social Workers has named Ashley Farrish of The University of Akron (UA) to receive its All-Ohio Bachelor of Social Work Student of the Year Award.

This is the second year in a row that an undergraduate student from the UA School of Social Work has been selected. In addition, last year a UA graduate student also received the master's degree award.

Dr. Tim McCarragher, director of the UA School of Social Work, nominated Farrish.

The award will be presented Oct. 28 in Columbus during the annual conference of the association’s Ohio chapter.

Farrish graduated from the UA School of Social Work this spring with a bachelor of social work degree and a minor in women’s studies. She is now pursuing a master’s degree from the UA School of Social Work.

She also is a 2005 graduate of Washington High School in Massillon, Ohio.
