The Russian fable of a child of snow who is brought to life by the warmth of human love is coming to Akron on Nov. 13 when The University of Akron Dance Institute presents “The Snow Maiden” at E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall.

With fabulous costumes and sets and a poignant score by Tchaikovsky and Glazunov, performances are at 1 and 7 p.m. at E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall, 198 Hill St., on the UA campus.

Local performers featured

The delightful family ballet will feature 94 performers, ages 5 to 18, who live and attend schools in the six-county area of Summit, Portage, Cuyahoga, Medina, Stark and Trumball counties.

Medina resident Christine Howe, age 17, will perform as the Snow Maiden. She began her training with Dance Institute as a young pre-ballet student and was in the “fruits and vegetables” section of the first Snow Maiden performance in 1998.

Erica Piper, 18, of Cuyahoga Falls, and Ryan DeAlexandro, 15, of Akron, will dance the roles of Pavel and Caterina. Bath resident Alexandra Petrus, age 17, will perform as the Snow Queen. Dance Institute faculty members Pauline Howe, Mary Kay Finn and Lisa Henderson will have cameo roles in the first act.
