Dance Spirit magazine has lauded The University of Akron for having one of the “most sought after dance programs in the country.” The UA program combines traditional academics with performance opportunities and technical training in ballet, pointe, modern, jazz, tap, musical theatre, choreography, dance history, teaching techniques, and nutrition.
UA’s world-class Center for Dance and Theatre in Guzzetta Hall, opened in 2006, is the impressive home of The University of Akron’s Dance Program as well as UA’s Dance Institute, Theatre Program, and Arts Administration Program. Adjacent to E.J. Thomas Hall on campus, the center features seven technology-enhanced dance studios, including an alternative/experimental performance venue; a design and lighting studio; scene and costume shops; trainer and physiotherapy facilities; locker rooms; and technology-enhanced classrooms.
