The University of Akron Office of Inclusion and Equity is co-sponsoring the American Association of University Women of Ohio's (AAUW) annual Equity Day and Convention April 9-10 at Quaker Square Inn, 135 S. Broadway St., Akron.
The two-day event, themed Women Worldwide, will offer learning opportunities for all women, notably in business and STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).
Keynote speakers include: Patricia Millhoff, president of AAUW Ohio and associate professor of criminal justice at UA; Candace Campbell Jackson, UA vice president and chief of staff; Dr. Rosa Githiora, interim director of UA's Women's Resource Center; and Lindsay Newton, UA senior and president of the student feminist organization, Liberation in Progress, participating in a social media panel discussion.
Three breakout sessions also are scheduled for Saturday. Participants include J.J. Reichert, women's program coordinator in the Governor’s Office for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Division; Ann Klotz, director of the Laurel School’s Center for Research on Girls; and Pam Ferris Olson, author of "Living in the Heartland:Three Extraordinary Women's Stories."
Sunday's program begins with a membership workshop followed by sessions with branch officers and their state board counterparts. A breakout session will feature panel discussions about the organization's Legacy Circle and Bowling Green State University's Digital Mirror Project.
Saturday's Equity Day program is free for all students with a student ID. The registration fee of $60 per day for nonstudents includes lunch.
