The University of Akron will confer about 700 undergraduate and graduate degrees at its Fall 2009 Commencement ceremonies at E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12.
University President Dr. Luis M. Proenza will deliver commencement addresses at both ceremonies. Two student speakers will represent the Fall Class of 2009. Terry Bingham of Mentor, a postsecondary technical education student from the College of Education, will be the morning ceremony’s student speaker. Hartville’s Madelin Reinersmann, a communication student from UA’s College of Creative and Professional Arts, will speak at the afternoon ceremony.
The degrees conferred will include 23 doctoral, 137 master's, 504 bachelor's and 35 associate. The morning ceremony will recognize candidates from the College of Business Administration, College of Education, College of Nursing, College of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering, and Summit College. Afternoon candidates will be from the Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences, College of Engineering, College of Creative and Professional Arts, College of Health Sciences and Human Services, and Wayne College.
"GradFest," a celebration for the graduates, their families and friends, will be held in the Thomas Hall Goodrich Lobby from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sponsored by the University's Alumni Association, GradFest features music, free snacks and beverages, and photo opportunities with UA's mascot, Zippy.
