York, a partner at the Cleveland office of Tucker Ellis & West LLP, was appointed to the UA Board by Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland, effective March 5. He will fill the remaining four years of an open, unexpired term.
“Nick York is a very accomplished young professional who is a welcome addition to The University of Akron’s Board of Trustees," says Chairman Philip Kaufmann. "His commitment to education, and the wealth of experience he brings from his professional life and wide-ranging community involvement will serve the University and its constituents well."
York, who earned a B.A., cum laude, at Ohio University in 1990, went on to earn a J.D. in 1993 at Capital University Law School. Today, he serves as chair of the public law practice at his firm, and has expertise in business and commercial litigation, and products liability and probate litigation.
In 2004, York was named one of Crain's Cleveland "40 under 40," and he has been selected as an Ohio Super Lawyer Rising Star in 2005, 2006 and 2007. York’s most recent honor came last year with his selection to Leadership Cleveland's Class of 2009.
York, who serves on the board of the National Small Business Association in Washington, D.C., has served as vice chairman of the Council of Smaller Enterprises, heading its government relations and advocacy efforts. York also has served as general counsel and a board member for such nonprofit organizations as Kids Voting, Inc.
