“Sketches at Home and Abroad” is the first title in The University of Akron Press Critical Editions in Early American Literature series. The book features Nathaniel Parker Willis (1806-67), a key figure during the American Renaissance of creative literature in the decades before the Civil War. This edition includes a general introduction and many short essays describing literary and historical contexts that provide information for the modern reader.
The series editor, Jon Miller, is an associate professor of English at UA. The publication includes graduate student work from a class Miller teaches on early American Literature and scholarly editing.
“Miller’s students gain a practical understanding of the publishing process and learn how important editing is to academic readers, a skill transferable to many careers,” says Thomas Bacher, UA Press director.
“Sketches at Home and Abroad” is available in paper for $15.95 (ISBN 978-1-931968-75-1) and can be ordered online at The University of Akron Press or by calling 1-800-247-6553.
