UA students use their carving skills to create sculptures out of fruits and vegetables.
The University of Akron’s Hospitality Management Technology students are teaming up with professor emeritus Chef Richard Alford to display their culinary talents at upcoming area events.
Alford and his Garde Manger Club students will present fruit- and vegetable-carving demonstrations at the Akron Road Runner Expo on Sept. 24 and at the Barberton Mum Festival, Sept. 25-26 at Barberton’s Lake Anna Park. Alford says the events showcase student success, provide public entertainment and give students an opportunity to practice for the Collegiate Nationals Fruit and Vegetable Carving Competition, which takes place Oct. 1-2 in Holland, Mich.
