A team of art students from The University of Akron's Myers School of Art has won a competition hosted by the Museum of Contemporary Art in Cleveland.
MOCA Cleveland organized the competition in tandem with its exhibition of the contemporary art collaborative assume vivid astro focus (avaf).
Expanding upon avaf's themes and style, five area schools — including UA’s Myers School of Art — were invited to create dynamic wall collages to be presented opposite avaf's psychedelic mural, ilegitimo (2009) in MOCA's Peter B. Lewis Gallery.
Using a variety of materials and imaginative techniques, each team produced a bold, distinctive wall collage. The winning team — juried by MOCA Cleveland curators — was revealed at an unveiling party on Sept. 29 at MOCA. As the winner, the UA team received a $500 prize.
Other schools in the competition were Cleveland State University, The Cleveland Institute of Art, Kent State University and Oberlin College.
The exhibition will continue through Jan. 9.
