College of Business Administration to host economic summit

03/11/2011

An economic summit hosted by The University of Akron’s College of Business Administration will be held on Tuesday, March 22 at 7:30 a.m., in the Student Union Ballroom.

Speakers include three well-known and distinguished UA alumni:

  • Sandra Pianalto, president and chief executive officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland;
  • Dennis Gartman, editor and publisher of the Gartman Letter and frequent commentator on CNBC; and
  • Gary Thayer, chief macro strategist at Wells Fargo Advisors.

The forum, “The Economy: Expectations, Risks, and Opportunities 2011 and Beyond,” offers a chance for students and the general public to gain more understanding from prominent UA alumni of the economic challenges that will be faced this year and beyond, says David A. Redle, chair of the department of finance and professor of business law.

“This is a unique opportunity to hear three University of Akron graduates who are experts in their respective fields provide valuable insight into the unfolding economy,” Redle said.  “It’s important for everyone to hear these experts discuss their thoughts on the major economic issues facing the country today and their effect on the future.”

Students and members of the business community are welcome to attend. Individual tickets prices are $30, but a limited number of sponsored seats for UA students are available. To be sponsored, interested students must register with Katie Logsdon of the UA College of Business Administration, 330-972-5691 or logsdon@uakron.edu. Cost of sponsoring a table is $300. Breakfast will be provided. Registration is recommended by Thursday, March 17.
