With a few mouse clicks, human resource professionals can uncover almost anything about potential employees on the Internet. What does this mean for job-seekers? Should they shy away from social media? Ramp up their privacy settings? Social media expert Shelley Blundell has answers, and will offer insightful tips for personal online reputation management on Tuesday, April 9, from 2 to 3 p.m. at The University of Akron's Center for the History of Psychology, 73 College St. This talk is free and open to the public.

Blundell, an avid member of today's technology generation and a graduate assistant in Kent State University's Center for Scholastic Journalism, will discuss "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly of Social Networking: Analyzing Your Net Presence."

Henry Roediger

Her presentation, which is part of the Center for the History of Psychology's Spring Colloquium Series, will include a snapshot of the benefits and consequences of social networking, dispel privacy myths and explain how the Internet is commonly being misused.

The colloquium series also will include Henry Roediger discussing "Riddles of History: Sir Fredric Barlett's Contributions to Memory Research and Their Curious Reception," on Monday, May 6, at 6 p.m. at UA's Martin University Center, 105 Fir Hill. This event will include dinner and requires a fee.

Roediger is the James S. McDonnell Distinguished University Professor of Psychology at Washington University.
