Homes and the arts combine for this spring's UA Arts-in-Residence Series
A Steinway piano serenade, hands-on printmaking, and how dance can boost our brainpower are the intriguing topics in this spring's Arts-in-Residence Series offered by The University of Akron's Fine Arts Division.
Jazz pianist Joe Augustine is the artist-in-residence at The University of Akron School of Music.
Hosted in the fascinating homes of area residents, plus the printmaking studio on the UA campus, the evening programs begin at 7:30 p.m. and feature presentations by UA faculty. Delicious refreshments are included.
Each program is $35. Advance registration is required. Proceeds support scholarships for students in the visual and performing arts at UA, and all registration fees are fully tax deductible.

"Making Impressions"
Wednesday, May 9, at 7:30 p.m.
Join printmaker Charles Beneke for an “impressionable” evening. Participants will start by exploring the history and contemporary practice of printmaking as an artist's medium. They will also learn about thINKeditions, the Mary Schiller Myers School of Art’s new subscription print club. Then, participants will put on the shop's aprons and make prints to take home. The setting for "Making Impressions" is the Printmaking Studio in Folk Hall on East Exchange Street — a former Cadillac dealership and now home to UA's Myers School of Art.
"So You Think You CAN’T Dance?"
Tuesday, May 15, at 7:30 p.m.
Participants will explore the evolution of dance from the courts of Louis XIV to the popular television shows of today with dancer Kara Stewart. They will also learn how why everyone can learn to dance for the sake of art appreciation, fitness, fun — and even boosting brainpower. The hosts are Karen Krino and Gary Rickel, whose Wadsworth home showcases the couple's love of entertaining, fishing and boating.
"Steinway Serenade"

Jazz pianist Joe Augustine will perform a springtime serenade from the Great American Songbook and his own "Remembering You" recording. A member of the prestigious roster of Steinway Artists, Augustine is an artist-in-residence at The University of Akron School of Music. As his many fans can attest, he is a special musician and an engaging entertainer. The hosts are Dan and Ginger Marchetta at their home in Bath, featuring stunning vistas and decor.
