Area high school teams take top honors in engineering competition

02/23/2010

Thirty-three teams representing 10 area high schools participated in the annual Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics and Science (TEAMS) competition recently hosted by the College of Engineering at The University of Akron.

The TEAMS competition is an annual theme-based competition giving students in grades 9-12 the opportunity to discover engineering and how they can make a difference in the world. Students become part of the action as they work together in teams and use the practical applications of math and science to answer engineering questions about everyday world challenges. This year’s theme was “Water, Water, Everywhere.”

These winners from the UA competition site are eligible for state and national honors:

Division 1 winners:
9/10 first place           Revere High School
9/10 second place       Hudson High School

11/12 first place         Hudson High School (Team B)
11/12 second place     Shaker Heights High School (Team B)
11/12 third place        Hudson High School (Team D)

TEAMS is sponsored by JETS (Junior Engineering Technical Society) — a national nonprofit educational organization promoting interest in mathematics, science, engineering and technology — and various engineering organizations. More than 20,000 high school students across the country compete in TEAMS competitions.
