Biography
Dr. Ortiz holds a Ph.D. in Hispanic Language and Literature from Boston University. His research focuses on the 19th-century Mexican intelligentsia and their views on liberalism, romanticism, politics, economics, and ethnicity as they relate to the process of nation-building.
He also enjoys teaching Spanish language, culture, and literature at all levels and encouraging students to work in community outreach and experiential learning-based projects. Before coming to the University of Akron, he taught at Brescia University, where he was a finalist for the Alpha Chi Honors Society Teaching Award (2021).
