Let's Unlock Akron together! Before the grind of classes begins, explore Akron and meet other new Zips as current UA students lead 'unique-to-Akron' experiences.
This year we're offering two ways to participate (both are described below):
Night at the Ballpark with the Akron Rubber Ducks
Painting Zippy at the Akron Art Museum
2023 ‘Unlock Akron’ experiences
Instructions for both events:
- Register for one or both events with the button below
- We will meet in the lobby of Simmons Hall
- As a group we will walk downtown together
- Maps and other travel information can be found in the link when you register
Friday, July 21 — Night Downtown at the Ballpark
Watch Akron's minor league team the Rubber Ducks take on the Richmond Flying Squirrels
- Friday, July 21 (Game starts at 7:05 p.m.)
- Check-in at Simmons at 5:45 p.m.
- New Zips will receive "Duck Bills" for concessions
- Fireworks immediately following the game
Friday, Aug. 4 — Painting Zippy at the Akron Art Museum
Show off your UA pride and love for Zippy through art at the gorgeous Akron Art Museum.
- Friday, August 4 (Event is at 2:30-5 p.m.)
- Check-in at Simmons at 2 p.m.
- New Zips will receive a canvas, art supplies, and templates to inspire your UA creation
- You will also learn about the Akron Art Museum, how you can use your Zip Card to explore the museum's exhibits throughout your time at UA
