CHIN 101 - Beginning Chinese I

4.00 credits
This course is designed to teach students to function in some personally relevant contexts on topics that can relate to basic biographical information in the Chinese language. Students will communicate in highly practiced contexts, for example, greetings, family-life, dates and time, hobbies, and social interactions. Students will learn how to understand how the Chinese writing system works and will be able to copy or transcribe familiar words or phrases covered in the course materials. Students will also develop an awareness of the culture of Chinese-speaking people which provides the context for a correct understanding of the language.

CHIN 102 - Beginning Chinese II


4.00 credits

CHIN 201 - Intermediate Chinese I


4.00 credits
This course is for students who have completed Chinese 102 or have the equivalent proficiency in Mandarin Chinese. Students will continue to provide more comprehensive knowledge and more practice on basic sentence patterns and grammar. Students will improve and enhance speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. Emphasis will be given on developing communication skills to carry out conversations on a range of topics related to daily life. Students will develop strategies for reading and understanding authentic texts in Chinese and further understand Chinese culture and society.
Conducted in Chinese. 
Prerequisites: CHIN 102 or equivalent.

CHIN 202 - Intermediate Chinese II


4.00 credits
This course is for students who have completed Chinese 201 or have the equivalent proficiency in Mandarin Chinese.
