Learning Communities: Two Outstanding Options
The Diverse Male Learning Community (DMLC) is a structured learning community experience designed to support underrepresented males in their transition from high school to The University of Akron. The DMLC emphasizes academic achievement, civic engagement, leadership, and responsibility. By participating, you will become a member of a community that intentionally promotes student success and connects you to academic and campus resources.
Benefits of the Diverse Male LC:
- Interact with leadership, faculty, staff and mentors across campus and in the greater Akron community.
- Receive individualized support from the OMD staff.
- Form connections with diverse students and multicultural student organizations at UA.
- Participate in a service learning projects in the greater Akron community.
- Participate in a Study Table program to promote academic success.
- Receive a book scholarship each semester you participate.
Who’s Eligible?
Students who are historically underrepresented and have a cumulative high school GPA of 2.50+ are eligible to join DMLC. The DMLC is open to all majors.

The PASSAGE Learning Community is structured to support students in their transition from high school to The University of Akron. PASSAGE encourages strong connections within the UA community through cooperative learning, civic engagement, mentoring, and the embrace of intellectual diversity. This LC also fosters cross-cultural celebration and a sense of belonging among our diverse undergraduate student body, including individuals from various backgrounds, orientations, abilities, and experiences.

- PASSAGE invites students with a cumulative high school GPA of 2.50 or higher, offering an opportunity for those seeking a strong start in college. Open to individuals from all majors, the PASSAGE LC creates an inclusive environment that not only values diversity but also encourages everyone to be their authentic selves!
