SPAN 101 - BEGINNING SPANISH I
4.00 credits This course is designed to teach students to understand Spanish in predictable contexts, on familiar topics, as spoken by native speakers. Students will learn to speak about personal interests and experiences, describe and narrate in the present tense and past, converse about future and potential events as well as meet every day social demands and perform basic functions in a Spanish-speaking environment. Writing comprehension will also be demonstrated in the form of writing short compositions. Students will develop strategies for reading and understanding authentic texts in Spanish as well as develop an awareness of the culture of Spanish-speaking people.

SPAN 201 - INTERMEDIATE SPANISH I
3.00 credits This course is based on the combination of learning outcomes across Interpersonal, Interpretative and Presentational Modes of Communication. Students learn grammar, vocabulary, and structures in a communicative approach to enable them to meet functional performance goals at the Intermediate level and to build a foundation for continued language learning. During this course, students should be able to consistently perform in the Novice range while more abilities emerge and develop in the Intermediate range. Students realize real-world communicative tasks in culturally appropriate ways and gain familiarity with the products, practices and perspectives of the Spanish language and its people. Pre-requisites: SPAN 102 or equivalent (Placement Test).
